Senior Civil Engineer


to join the infrastructure team in Cardiff.


The Role:
The infrastructure team currently provides support to the wider company in the delivery of highways and drainage designs elements for projects with varying scope in complexity and value, from small domestic projects to multi-million-pound construction contracts. The company’s core business is in the delivery of design work within the Rail, Commercial and Industrial buildings, and Leisure sectors across the UK and beyond.


Many of the projects involve work to complex structures, particularly over rail routes, and the design of temporary works is often associated with these projects. The role requires a practical Engineer with good problem-solving skills and the ability to embrace the challenges that come with a wide range of projects and a diverse set of clients.

Your duties will include, although not be limited to:
Taking ownership of their work and managing their project workload to achieve programmed deadlines
Supporting colleagues in the delivery of projects
The preparation of detailed designs for adoptable Highways, typically Section 38 and 278 using Civil3D and AutoCAD
The preparation of detailed design of private roads to clients own standard and the use of good practice
The detailed design of adoptable drainage networks to Section 104 and Section 185 of the water Industry Act 1991, using WinDes or Causeway Flow software
The detailed design of private drainage networks using WinDes or Causeway Flow software
The preparation of drainage designs to suit SuDS and SAB requirements
Prepare layouts in AutoCAD and with the support of technicians
Reviewing and checking designs
Preparation of FRAs, Catchment Assessments, and Drainage Strategies
Preparing calculations for rail projects such flumes and culvert sizes, crest drains and track drainage
Preparation of Option and Feasibility studies for highway projects such as priority junctions, roundabouts, signalised junctions, Active Travel Routes etc
Pre-planning advice and documentation to support planning applications
Liaising with colleagues and clients to verify project scope and ensure deliverables
Carrying out inspection, site surveys and assessments and preparing reports in association with the above
Assisting in the preparation of tenders and fee proposals
Developing new and existing client relationships
Advising junior staff and assisting colleagues in the wider business to develop solutions


To be considered for this design role we require the following experience, qualifications, skills, knowledge and attributes;
A relevant Civil Engineering degree
GMICE but nearing


Incorporated/Chartered


status (MICE), or


Incorporated/Chartered


Status (MICE)
Significant post graduate experience
Client focused approach with effective interpersonal and communication skills
Full UK driving licence and own transport
Eligible to live and work in the UK
A high standard of written English.

You’ll be employed on a permanent contract, working 40 hours per week. There is flexibility with start and finish times available however, the core working hours are Monday to Friday 9.30am to 4.30pm.
