Our Public Protection service is currently on the lookout for a Public Protection Manager for Community Protection to join them. This is a unique opportunity to shape and develop the service on a county scale, delivering excellent service to residents and business, protecting the health and wellbeing of our community.
Main duties of the job
As a Public Protection Manager, you will manage the councils community protection teams, with the responsibility for the licensing service, and pest control. Your role ensures the provision of high-quality services within the Public Protection Service while developing and reviewing policies and practices to maintain compliance with key performance indicators. You will work alongside internal and external agencies such as Defra, the Police, town and parish councils and Area Boards, on a variety of projects, whilst also being responsible for preparing and presenting criminal prosecutions in the magistrates court.
Qualifications
Our ideal candidate will hold a degree-level qualification in a relevant field, such as Environmental Health. You will be required to hold a Membership of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health along with a commitment to maintaining this membership through the required annual CPD hours. Significant post-qualification experience, alongside specialist and up-to-date knowledge of Community Protection and broader national and corporate issues related to Public Protection will be essential.
Job responsibilities
- To manage and be responsible for the councils community protection functions which include licensing, animal health, and pest control teams, ensuring the provision of high quality outputs within the Public Protection Service.
- A broad range of knowledge is required to enable postholders to move within the service to manage other teams with different roles.
- To be responsible for the day to day delivery of a range of statutory and non statutory public protection duties.
- To be the Councils lead authority on the relevant law and professional practice in the work area and develop relevant policies.
- To provide specialist advice to senior officers, members and committees on all issues across the community protection team.
- To be an effective part of the Public Protection management team reporting to the head of service.
- To plan, develop, lead, review, monitor and evaluate specific projects as required.
- To deputise for the head of service as required.
