Global Medical Director – Oncology External Innovation & New Products Strategy
This position is to be based in London or Paris.
Sat within the Oncology Global Medical Affairs team, this role will act as the medical and scientific expert in the expansion of the mid/late stage Oncology Pipeline through the evaluation of new business development opportunities. This will include everything from early evaluation through to due diligence and asset licensing or acquisition.
For this role it is essential that any interested candidates have Global Medical Affairs experience, possess excellent leadership and influencing skills, have led regional/global strategy, and have worked expertise within Oncology in Global Medical Affairs roles.
Key responsibilities:
- Act as the Medical Lead for evaluating mid-to-late stage business development opportunities, overseeing the entire process from initial assessment through due diligence and asset licensing/acquisition.
- Take the lead in developing Target Product Profiles (TPPs) for late-stage assets in close collaboration with R&D teams.
- Perform comprehensive scientific analyses, quickly gathering and synthesizing relevant data from a variety of sources (e.g., literature, congresses, thought leader insights, analytical reports, internal databases, ct.gov) to support business case development.
- Work alongside the External Innovation and New Products teams to conduct detailed competitive landscape analyses.
- Generate key content for evaluations (e.g., disease background, unmet needs, competitive landscape, TPPs, thought leader insights, GMA budget planning), presenting results regularly to the Deal Review Board and Ipsen Leadership Teams.
- Drive the creation and implementation of external innovation strategies across various therapeutic areas.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to refine therapeutic area strategies and propel business development forward.
- Identify and assess new external business opportunities, such as licensing, partnerships, and collaborations.
- Conduct thorough commercial evaluations of new opportunities, incorporating market insights, competitive landscape reviews, and risk assessments.
- Contribute to internal pipeline planning and support commercialization strategies for emerging products.
- Represent the company in discussions with potential partners and external stakeholders.
- Cultivate and maintain a network of external experts to evaluate new asset potential and address unmet needs.
- Present strategic recommendations to executive leadership and key stakeholders to shape the company’s direction.
Candidate Requirements:
- PhD, MD preferred, MBA is desirable
- Extensive experience and scientific knowledge in Oncology is essential
- Prior involvement in business development, due diligence or new product assessments is highly beneficial
- Experience in a Global Medical Affairs organisation
- Excellent analytical skills and commercial/business acumen
- Competent in developing and maintaining relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
