We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our IT team as a Storage and Backup Engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing, supporting, and maintaining enterprise-grade storage and backup systems. Key duties include providing coaching and training to less experienced team members, adhering to and improving existing processes and procedures, and ensuring the smooth transition of newly completed projects into live environments. The role also involves active participation in problem management and continuous service improvement processes, liaising with other departments to meet their IT needs, and ensuring third-party support aligns with our service level agreements.


This role requires occasional travel to our Newport, Cardiff, or Swansea offices.


Key Duties

The role holder will be responsible for implementing, supporting and maintaining enterprise grade storage and backup systems.


Other duties will include:



  • Providing coaching, training and general support to less experienced members of IT.

  • Adhering to day-to-day processes and procedures which already exist within the team as well as creating, reviewing, updating or replacing any as deemed appropriate.

  • Accepting newly completed projects into ‘live’ ensuring that all aspects to enable support have been considered and supplied beforehand.

  • Being aware and familiar with the concept of ‘risk’ and how this can affect the availability of IT systems and be impacted through their activities.

  • Actively contributing to the Problem Management and Continuous Service Improvement processes and ensuring that accurate recording of incidents is provided towards understanding the full impact of incidents and outages.

  • Liaising with other departments within the business to ensure that their IT needs are met in the most appropriate fashion, particularly with respect to monitoring and alerting.

  • Participating in the CAB processes and ensuring that all changes are submitted and implemented correctly.

  • Ensuring that our 3rd parties deliver their support in such a way which is beneficial to our environment (and in accordance with SLAs), highlighting any failures and deficiencies.

Experience/Skills required

Role holders should be able to demonstrate a significant level of experience and expertise across as many of the following areas as possible:



  • File and Block level Storage – Pure Storage, IBM SAN Fabric Switch Administration

  • Enterprise Backup Solutions (VEEAM Availability Suite)

  • Experience of working with VMware

  • Excellent multi-tasking skills

  • An ability to prioritise work

  • A desire to learn and adapt to changes to the technical environment.

  • Flexible approach to work in terms of out of hours activity being required at times at potentially any one of the Admiral locations.

  • Familiar with Monitoring and Alerting tools – PagerDuty, PRTG, App Dynamics, Manage Engine.


The role holder must have a full UK driving license and car, and be willing to travel to the Newport, Cardiff or Swansea office when required.
