Senior System Engineer


As a Senior System Engineer you contribute for reusable artefacts and best practices for the organisation and have demonstrated this in your previous assignments. Being able to Mentoring your colleagues and participate in R&D and CS interactions.


What you'll do



This is a challenging position where you will be exposed to a variety of environments and technologies within different teams in R&D.


Being a System Engineer at Backbase means taking ownership in your projects and enable our teams to setup their environments from test to release. You will analyse the particular situation, the needs, and provide documented guidelines for the implementation. You give advice on security standards and optimizing performance.


You design, develop and oversee the implementation of solutions that improve the stability, scalability, availability and latency of our product. At Backbase we focus on providing solutions instead of workarounds. You are in close contact with R&D Engineers and this leads to valuable input to improve our product in your collaboration with our R&D teams.


This role requires in depth knowledge of the current SDLC used by Backbase, best-practices, trends and related technologies as well as interest in new tools.



Who you are




  • 5+ years of experience in a similar role;

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience;

  • English language to a professional level, written and spoken;

  • AWS Certified SysOps Administrator or Similar is a plus.


Functional/technical skills:



  • Solid Experienced in developing custom solutions for systems monitoring, deployments, continuous integration, etc;

  • Designed and/or built mission-critical services (large scale internet or cloud-based services);

  • Solid software development background with Java, Spring and Maven;

  • Shell, scripting, Java and Python programming experience;

  • Expertise with Linux / Unix systems;

  • Experience with any configuration management tools (we prefer Maven, Ansible);

  • Experience with any continuous integration server (such as Bamboo, Jenkins, TeamCity, GoCD);

  • Solid knowledge of cloud-native deployments on Kubernetes (EKS, Azure, GCP, Open Shift or bare metal) and Pivotal Cloud Foundry.


R&D:



  • Solid understanding of systems monitoring, alerting and analytics (NewRelic, Cactai, Graphite, Log Stash, Nagios, Ganglia etc.);

  • Proven experience with production systems and dealing with production issues;

  • Extensive knowledge and experience with automation tools;

  • Experience deploying to application servers such as Jetty, Tomcat, JBoss, Websphere in enterprise environments, and working with Relational and NoSQL Databases;

  • Experienced with using Agile development methodologies;

  • Insightful opinions about systems architecture;

  • Experienced with Helm Charts;

  • Solid Experienced with Npm, Node, Maven;

  • Solid Experienced with Python, Flask and Jinja2;

  • Solid Experienced with REST;

  • Solid Experienced with Git;

  • Solid Experienced with Software testing;

  • Solid Experienced with CI/CD tooling like Travis CI, GitLabs, Jenkins, GoCD and best practices;

  • Solid Experienced with domain specific languages like (Chef or Ansible or Salt or Puppet);

  • Solid Experienced with Deployment and configuration;

  • Solid Experienced with Static code analysis and code quality;

  • Solid Experienced with Security considerations;

  • Understands the idea of Non-Functional Requirements (‘the NFRs’);

  • Solid Experienced with Docker, Kubernetes;

  • Understanding of deploying Mobile apps, pipelines and production releases.
