At Oakmont School in Cardiff, we are seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Qualified Teacher to join us on a permanent basis. We are one of Cardiff’s youngest and most forward-thinking schools and we are excited to be entering into a stage of development and growth
Oakmont School is committed to working with children between ages 8-18 who have experienced uncertainty, instability or disruption in their young lives. They may have been excluded from mainstream education, may be vulnerable or may experience school-phobia. We are here to offer structure, support and consistency, and to help our learners gain the confidence to re-discover and meet their potential
As a full-time, permanent Qualified Teacher, based at our school in Cardiff Bay, you will design and deliver high-quality education both in and out of the classroom, and both on and off-site. Teaching will be foundational and thematic across a range of subject areas, laying the groundwork for lifelong learning, critical thinking and social skills, and playing a significant role in the academic and personal development of our learners.
You will be part of a team that is instrumental in meeting and exceeding Estyn quality standards and regulations, as well as upholding our own school values. You will deliver rich and engaging sessions across a broad curriculum that will help our learners to achieve and progress and allow them to plan for a bright and productive future.
This is a rewarding and varied role which entails the delivery of sessions on numeracy, literacy, science and humanities as well as personal and social development
Oakmont School places great emphasis on person-centred support and on finding approaches that ensure our pupils can work towards their goals and aspirations in an environment which is tailored to their needs
You will work closely with young people who may present with challenging behaviour, and so you will be required to develop trusting and resilient relationships
Our classes are comprised of no more than 6 learners, and each class has a teacher and two LSAs. Within your role as Qualified Teacher, you will be responsible for all aspects of managing the classroom environment, including utilising your team of LSAs to facilitate learning and to ensure the pupils’ understanding, and assimilation of knowledge
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
As a Qualified Teacher, delivering General Education, you will be responsible for:
• Designing and delivering high quality engaging lessons that maximise learning across the school and across the curriculum.
• Teaching across all levels and abilities
• Demonstrating excellent subject knowledge and communicating this in an enthusiastic and imaginative way.
• Remaining informed of sector-leading practices and developments
• Developing, maintaining and stimulating pupils’ curiosity, interest and enjoyment in a range of subjects
• Developing pupils’ familiarity, competence and confidence in learning
• Encouraging all pupils to reach their potential
• Fulfilling the professional responsibilities of a teacher in accordance with the school’s policies, and meeting quality standards and regulatory expectations set out by Estyn
• Taking responsibility for the day-to-day management and organisation of your class/subject areas including the use of LSAs to maximise pupils’ understanding and assimilation of learning.
• Assisting in the smooth running of the school
• Assessing, monitoring, recording and reporting on the learning needs, progress and achievements of pupils
• Making positive contributions to the culture and ethos of the school
• Curriculum and pupil development to secure co-ordinated school-wide outcomes
• Providing cover where necessary in the unforeseen circumstance that another teacher is unable to teach
• Taking part in the school’s Performance, Review and Development procedures
• Taking part in further training and professional development to improve your own teaching practices
• Communicate effectively with pupils, parents and a wide range of professionals.
• Developing effective and positive professional relationships with all staff, collaborating with other teachers to enhance the educational experience
• Providing guidance and support to pupils with academic or social challenges
• Having proper and professional regard for the ethos, policies, and practices of the school and maintaining high standards of attendance and punctuality.
• Directing and supervising support staff and where appropriate other teachers.
• Taking part in Scrutiny, Evaluation and Improvement Process (SEIP) when required.
• Maintaining good order and discipline among pupils, managing behaviour effectively to ensure a safe learning environment
