We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Vale of Glamorgan to assist with the appointment of a Maintenance Technician, on a 5-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.
Rate of Pay: £15.60-£20.42/Hour
Summary:
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for carrying out a wide range of building, fabric, and minor mechanical and electrical maintenance tasks across council properties. This includes residential homes, corporate buildings, and public facilities. The role supports the delivery of safe, compliant, and well-maintained environments for service users, staff, and the public. The postholder will work proactively as part of a responsive and planned maintenance team to deliver high-quality repairs and improvements, in line with health and safety legislation, council policies, and service standards.
Responsibilities:
- Undertake planned and reactive maintenance tasks across a range of building trades (e.g., plumbing, joinery, plastering, painting).
- Carry out fault-finding and basic electrical/mechanical repairs where competent and permitted.
- Respond to maintenance requests, emergency call-outs, and health & safety issues within agreed timescales.
- Conduct regular inspections and checks of council properties to identify defects or required improvements.
- Ensure all work is carried out safely and in accordance with current legislation (e.g., Health and Safety at Work Act, COSHH).
Requirements:
- NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification in a relevant building trade (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, general maintenance).
- Full, clean UK driving licence (Council vehicle may be provided).
- Proven experience in a similar maintenance or multi-trade technician role.
- Experience working within occupied buildings and public-facing services (e.g., schools, care homes, offices).
- Knowledge of building maintenance procedures, tools, and repair techniques.
