Role description:
Our Ecology team, with over 60 ecologists and more than 30 years of experience, is looking to recruit a Technical Director. We undertake ecological surveys, assessments, and provide advice on soil, land use, hydrology, sustainable drainage, arboriculture, ecosystem services, natural capital, biodiversity strategies, and cultural heritage. We have completed over 2,000 projects across the UK, Europe, and beyond, for various public and private clients.
The Technical Director will oversee the quality, coordination, and completion of ecological projects, manage client relationships, and lead the team to meet project, budget, and safety targets. You will play a key role in coaching, mentoring, and ensuring professional development of team members, while exemplifying leadership and project delivery excellence.
This role can be based anywhere in the UK.
Role accountabilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Managing projects, budgets, and cash flow, attending meetings, advising clients, and producing bids
- Ensuring technical quality and approval of project deliverables
- Overseeing ecological surveys, analyzing results, and producing reports and assessments
- Providing ecological advice across a range of issues
- Managing license applications, mitigation, and monitoring, liaising with authorities
- Performance management and training of team members
- Designing research projects and contributing to best practice standards
- Managing high-quality, competitive bids
Qualifications & Experience:
- Extensive leadership experience with strong ecological knowledge and impact assessment expertise
- Proven record in ecological reporting and assessments
- Knowledge of natural capital and biodiversity net gain is desirable
- Expertise in specific plant or animal groups and survey skills
- Membership of CIEEM and Chartered Ecologist or equivalent
- Survey and/or development licenses are preferred
