Description

The Senior Lawyer will be expected to:

• Manage a broad spectrum of legal work, including reviewing, drafting, negotiating and advising on a variety of construction related agreements and documentation.
• Be capable of providing advice on some construction litigation matters, for example Terminations, Pay Less Notices and Adjudications.
• Review and update the suite of construction documents and guidance notes as appropriate.
• Deliver a tailored training programme to the commercial and technical teams on the suite of construction documents.
• Provide steering and advice to the business (including the Executive/Board) on various legal issues affecting the house building sector.
• Instruct and manage external lawyers, where deemed appropriate.
• Be a lead participant in the shaping and delivery of the future strategy of the Group Legal & Compliance Team; and
• Actively participate in and collaborate with the Senior lawyers and/or the Group Head of Legal & Compliance as and where required in respect of complex and strategic projects.

Profile

A successful Senior Construction Counsel should have:

• UK Qualified Solicitor with at least 4 years PQE.
• Expertise in drafting and negotiating construction contracts, including JCT and NEC forms.
• Be a motivated, energised and confident character, with a "can do" approach to their work and advice
• Be commercially minded
• Be able to effectively balance risk with the overall aims and objectives of the Group
• Be able to deliver training to the business
• In house experience helpful but not an absolute prerequisite for the role
• Be able to work effectively both as part of a team and autonomously
• Have excellent organisational and multi-tasking and drafting skills
• have good word processing and IT skills
