Hays Specialist Recruitment is recruiting on behalf of a secure public-sector organisation for an experienced Carpenter Joiner to join a busy maintenance team based in HMP Cardiff. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a secure environment, carrying out a varied mix of carpentry, joinery, refurbishment, and maintenance duties across a large operational estate.
Your New Role
As a Carpenter / Locksmith, you will play a key role in maintaining the safety, security, and functionality of the site. You will undertake both planned and reactive maintenance tasks, ensuring repairs and installations are completed to a high standard.
Carpentry & Fabric Maintenance
Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on doors, windows, frames, fixtures, and fittings.
Install and repair wooden structures, mouldings, and building components.
Undertake refurbishment and minor project works across the estate.
Complete painting and decorating tasks as required.
Respond to work orders and maintenance requests raised through the CAFM system.
Conduct general building fabric repairs and maintenance.
Perform planned maintenance and inspections on locks and locking systems.
Manage lock stores and maintain accurate records and logs.
Identify, condemn, and replace faulty locks, cylinders, and keys.
Support site security requirements and ensure compliance with operational procedures.
Compliance & Operational Duties
Carry out inspections, surveys, and maintenance reporting.
Support emergency and urgent repair works when required.
Work safely at height and within confined spaces where necessary.
Adhere to all health, safety, and security procedures within a secure environment.
What You'll Need to Succeed
NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds qualification in Carpentry (or equivalent experience).
Proven experience in carpentry maintenance and repair work.
Locksmith experience or knowledge of lock maintenance is highly desirable.
Ability to work independently and manage a varied workload.
Strong understanding of health and safety practices.
Good communication and record-keeping skills.
Full UK driving licence is desirable.
