Our client is a successful privately owned group operating across multiple business sectors, including commercial services, engineering operations and property interests. The group operates from several locations and has established a strong reputation for service quality, operational excellence and long-term customer relationships.

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Finance Director to provide strategic and operational financial leadership across the group. Reporting to the Board and Shareholders, this role requires a technically strong and commercially focused finance professional capable of delivering accurate financial reporting, robust financial control and meaningful business insight.

The Finance Director will lead all aspects of the finance function, ensuring strong governance, effective financial planning and clear performance reporting. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting strategic decision-making, improving profitability and driving continuous improvement across financial processes and systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead budgeting, forecasting and financial planning activities across the group.
  • Produce accurate monthly management accounts, board reports and financial analysis.
  • Manage cash flow, treasury activities and working capital performance.
  • Oversee sales ledger, credit control and debt management, ensuring effective cash collection and credit risk management.
  • Maintain strong controls over supplier payments, purchase ledger processes and expenditure management.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, taxation requirements and statutory obligations.
  • Lead annual audit processes and maintain effective financial controls and governance frameworks.
  • Develop financial models and investment appraisals to support strategic business decisions.
  • Analyse profitability across business units, locations and revenue streams.
  • Deliver meaningful KPI reporting to support operational and commercial performance.
  • Drive improvements in financial systems, reporting capability and process efficiency.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to provide financial insight and challenge.
  • Lead, develop and mentor a finance team of approximately 10 employees.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will possess previous experience operating at Finance Director, Head of Finance or Financial Controller level within a complex commercial environment.

You will possess strong technical accounting expertise combined with the commercial acumen to influence senior stakeholders and support business growth.

  • Expertise in budgeting, forecasting, treasury and cash management.
  • Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills.
  • Experience of ERP systems and finance process improvement.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making ability.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience leading and developing finance teams.
  • Hands-on, commercially aware and capable of driving continuous improvement.
