Senior Residential Support Worker / Team Leader – Children's Specialist Service

Cardiff | Full-time | Permanent

£15.00 – £16.00 per hour

We are recruiting for an experienced Senior Residential Support Worker / Team Leader to join a specialist children's residential service in Cardiff.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children and young people with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) and complex support needs and wants to work in a nurturing, therapeutic environment.

The service takes a child-centred and trauma-informed approach, supporting young people to feel safe, develop confidence and build independence and life skills.

The Role

As a Senior Residential Support Worker / Team Leader, you will play a key role in the day-to-day running of the home. You will lead shifts, support the residential team and work closely with the Registered Manager to ensure consistently high standards of care.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading shifts and supporting the residential care team
  • Providing high-quality, individualised care to children and young people
  • Building positive and trusting relationships
  • Supporting young people with ALN and complex needs
  • Promoting emotional wellbeing, independence and life skills
  • Supporting daily routines, activities, appointments and community access
  • Following care plans, risk assessments and safeguarding procedures
  • Completing accurate records, reports and handovers
  • Mentoring and supporting less experienced staff
  • Helping maintain a safe, stable and nurturing home environment
  • Working closely with the Registered Manager and wider professional team

About You

Essential:

  • Level 3 qualification in Health & Social Care or equivalent
  • Previous experience working with children, young people or within a care/support environment
  • Experience of supervising, mentoring or leading staff
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection
  • Calm, patient and consistent approach
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Genuine passion for supporting children and young people

Desirable:

  • Experience in children's residential care
  • Experience supporting children with ALN, autism or complex needs
  • Knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support or therapeutic approaches
  • Registered with Social Care Wales
  • Previous Senior Support Worker or Team Leader experience
