This is a permanent position offering excellent long-term prospects with a business that can provide varied, technically interesting projects and genuine responsibility.

As Project Manager, you will take overall responsibility for the successful delivery of projects from pre-construction and mobilisation through to completion and handover.

The company is open-minded regarding sector background. Previous rail experience is not essential. The priority is finding an accomplished Project Manager with a strong construction background and a proven ability to take ownership of projects, manage teams and deliver safely, commercially and to programme.

Projects involve a mixture of civil engineering, structures, groundworks and rail-related works throughout South Wales.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading site teams, subcontractors and supply chain partners
  • Developing and managing construction programmes
  • Monitoring progress against programme, budget and project objectives
  • Ensuring projects are delivered safely and to the required quality standards
  • Managing client relationships and acting as a key point of contact
  • Coordinating commercial, operational and technical teams
  • Managing project risks, changes and potential delays
  • Overseeing procurement and subcontractor performance
  • Chairing project and progress meetings
  • Ensuring contractual requirements are understood and achieved
  • Providing regular project reporting to senior management
  • Driving projects through to successful completion and handover

Project Manager – The Person

You will need to demonstrate strong, hands-on Project Management experience within construction.

The company will consider candidates from civil engineering, structures, groundworks, rail or general building backgrounds. You do not need to come directly from the rail sector.

You should have:

  • Minimum five years’ experience working at Project Manager level
  • Strong construction project delivery experience
  • A track record of managing projects from mobilisation through to completion
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills
  • Strong programme, planning and organisational ability
  • Good commercial and contractual awareness
  • Confidence dealing directly with clients and key stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and solve problems effectively
  • Relevant construction qualifications and industry certification
  • APM PMQ, PRINCE2 or similar Project Management qualification would be advantageous but is not essential

  • £60,000 – £70,000 basic salary, potentially negotiable for the right individual
  • Car allowance on top
  • Overtime opportunities
  • Additional company benefits/package
  • Permanent position with a strong pipeline of work
  • Varied projects throughout South Wales
  • Opportunity to join an established principal contractor with excellent long-term prospects
