Senior Quantity Surveyor - #2155002

We are currently working with an established housebuilder to recruit a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team in Cardiff.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor looking to take the next step in their career with a successful residential developer. Housebuilding experience is preferred, although our client is also open to candidates from main contractor, sub-contractor or client-side backgrounds who have strong commercial experience and a good understanding of the construction process.

Our client is offering one day per week from home, but could increase that to two or three days from home for exceptional candidates who live further afield.

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for managing the commercial performance of developments from procurement through to completion. You will work closely with the wider development, technical and site teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with commercial targets.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Managing the commercial performance of residential developments.
• Preparing and managing budgets, forecasts and cost reports.
• Procurement and management of subcontractors and suppliers.
• Negotiating and agreeing subcontract packages.
• Monitoring costs, variations and commercial risks.
• Managing valuations, payments and final accounts.
• Working closely with site and operational teams to maximise project performance.
• Providing commercial advice and reporting to senior management.

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within housebuilding / residential development
• Strong commercial and contractual knowledge.
• Experience managing subcontractors, procurement and project costs.
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
• The ability to work independently and manage multiple commercial priorities.
• A relevant construction or quantity surveying qualification is desirable.

Candidates from main contracting, construction consultancy or client-side backgrounds will also be considered, provided they can demonstrate strong commercial experience and a genuine interest in moving into the housebuilding sector.
