Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm

Work Arrangement: Hybrid working (3 days in the office, 2 days at home) after successful completion of probation.

We are Fleet Mortgages, a people-focused business specialising in buy-to-let lending. Since 2014, we have been providing a fair and trusted service, and we were acquired by Starling Bank in 2021.

We are seeking a Mortgage Underwriter to join our Underwriting Team in Cardiff. This role involves liaising with brokers to progress mortgage applications from receipt to offer. You will assess borrower and property information to ensure compliance with Fleet’s criteria and lending suitability.

This varied role requires good decision-making, communication skills, and an excellent eye for detail.

• Work with agreed objectives, service standards, and deliverables.


• Check documentation and information for adherence to policies and criteria.


• Handle queries and enquiries effectively, accurately, and professionally, delivering excellent customer service.


• Respond promptly to all written correspondence.

• Previous experience as a manual mortgage underwriter (essential).


• Currently holding a mortgage lending mandate (essential).


• Strong decision-making skills.


• Good commercial and professional judgment.


• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


• CeMAP qualification preferred or willingness to study for it.
