Music Teacher - Upper School (part-time) - #1723829
Cardiffsteiner

Cardiff Steiner School is seeking a part-time Music Teacher to join our passionate and collaborative team in the Upper School for students aged 14 to 19.
Apply now – position open until filled.
Your role will involve coordinating the Music programme across the Upper School, including group singing, general class music-making (voice, rhythm, tuned percussion, keyboards), and musical notation and theory.
You will work with the Steiner Waldorf curriculum and the Certificate of Steiner Education (NZCSE), an assessment-only qualification equivalent to A Levels, recognized by UK and international universities. This is a unique opportunity to influence both our students' lives and the development of our Upper School, free from GCSE and A level curricula constraints.
About Music at the School
From ages 6 to 14, students learn music with their Class Teachers, including playing pentatonic and diatonic flutes and recorders, singing, and musical notation. From age 9, some students choose individual instrument lessons with our peripatetic teachers (strings, piano, woodwind), contributing to the school's musical culture.
In Upper School, students participate in choir performances, support the choir and participate in assemblies, festivals, and solo or ensemble performances. As they advance, students work towards performing instrumental and choral pieces at various events throughout the year.
About the Role
The current position involves 6 lessons per week over 2 days, plus planning, preparation, meetings, and professional development. The teaching year is approximately 36 weeks. Hours and schedule are flexible and can be discussed with the successful candidate.
There is potential to teach additional elective music lessons, focusing on performance, composition, music studies, and music technologies for students studying music as a specialization in NZCSE Levels 2 and 3. These would involve small groups over a few weeks, with options to teach music history and other modules depending on skills and experience.
About Us
Located in Wales’ capital, our school offers a full Kindergarten to Class 12 Steiner Waldorf education. Established in 1997 and expanded to Upper School in 2017, we offer the NZCSE, the first trans-national Steiner secondary qualification recognized by UCAS and accepted by universities worldwide. Our diverse team values collaboration and professional growth, supporting teachers through mentoring, peer observation, and training. We are a fully independent, Waldorf UK member school.
About You
You are a dedicated, creative, and resourceful individual passionate about working with young people. You possess a high level of musical expertise, capable of teaching singing and general music-making, and supporting students in instrumental and choral performances.
You have proven experience teaching music to youth, an interest in Steiner-Waldorf education, and a commitment to delivering a developmentally appropriate music programme aligned with Steiner principles.
Our team of qualified Steiner teachers will support your professional development through mentoring and training. Cardiff Steiner School is committed to safeguarding and encourages applications from underrepresented groups, including diverse ethnicity, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, and religion.
