You’ll be joining a long-established electrical contractor delivering installation works across retail, hospitality, commercial and multi-site rollout environments. The business has a strong directly employed engineering team, a long-standing client base and a reputation for keeping hold of good people.

Most of the work is retail fit-out, refurbishment, rollout and installation work for recognisable high-street and hospitality clients. Projects are normally planned within around an hour of where you live, although you must be willing to travel nationally when required.

This is a roving role, but it is not a permanent stay-away position. Most engineers are home most weeks, but there will be times when you may need to stay away for three, four or five days depending on the project.

The role

You’ll be working as a mobile Electrician / Electrical Engineer, carrying out electrical installation works across retail and commercial sites.

The work is expected to include fast-track fit-outs, retail refurbishments, lighting, power, containment, small works, electrical modifications, distribution, final connections, remedials and general installation support.

You’ll be trusted to work to a high standard, represent the business professionally on client sites and help deliver projects safely, quickly and properly.

The company guarantees 37.5 hours, but most engineers voluntarily work higher hours. It is common for engineers to work between 50 and 80 hours a week, depending on workload, travel, programme and project requirements.

At £24.85 per hour, with 33 days’ holiday paid at 7.5 hours per day, that gives a rough annual earning range of approximately £62,500 to £96,400 before tax, based on 50 to 80 hours per week during working weeks. Lodge allowance is paid where applicable through the JIB and claimed weekly alongside weekly pay.

What you’ll be doing

• Carrying out electrical installation works across retail, hospitality and commercial fit-out projects.
• Working on fast-track refurbishments, rollouts, small works and planned installation schemes.
• Installing containment, cabling, lighting, power, distribution, accessories and associated electrical systems.
• Supporting testing, inspection, snagging, remedials and handover where required.
• Reading drawings, site information and work instructions to deliver installations correctly.
• Working safely in live or fast-moving retail environments.
• Liaising with site managers, project managers, client representatives and other trades.
• Keeping accurate records of works completed, materials used, issues raised and any follow-on requirements.
• Travelling to projects across the UK when required, although work is normally planned within around an hour of your home location.
• Staying away when the project requires it, usually for short periods rather than every week.
• Representing the business professionally on client sites and maintaining a high standard of workmanship.

What you’ll need

• You must hold a valid Gold Card, either ECS or CSCS.
• You’ll need to be a qualified Electrician or Electrical Engineer with strong installation experience.
• Retail fit-out experience would be ideal, especially if you have worked on fast-track projects, rollouts, refurbishments or live trading environments.
• Testing and inspection would be useful, particularly 2391, 2394 / 2395 or equivalent, but it is not essential.
• You should be comfortable working independently, travelling to different sites and dealing with changing project requirements.
• Experience across lighting, power, containment, small works, distribution, remedials and fit-out installation would be highly relevant.
• You’ll need a full UK driving licence.
• You must be willing to travel nationally when required and stay away occasionally when project demand calls for it.

You take pride in the standard of your work and understand the pace of retail fit-out. Programmes are tight, clients expect things done properly and there is not much room for poor communication or unfinished work.
